If you had a couple extra days, here
are some of the sights and activities that northern New England has
to offer. Maine Massachusetts Even Further Afield Hop the ferry

Scotia from Portland or Bar Harbor, Maine.

While you're in the Granite State, there's plenty to
do. Here are just a few options:
Climb Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast, up
Tuckerman's Ravine or drive up the Mount Washington
Auto Road.
Backpack in to an Appalachian Mountain Club hut and stay
the night.
Explore Franconia Notch or other areas of the White
Mountains.
Head to the Lakes Region where you'll find Lake Winnepesaukee, the largest
lake in the state
The premiere race of New Hampshire big auto racing
weekend, the NNCS Sylvania 300, is sold out but there are still tickets
available for races available on Friday at the New Hampshire International

Maine's coastline, with its many
islands and inlets, is longer than California's. And the state's 6,000
lakes and ponds, 32,000 miles of rivers and streams, and 60 lighthouses
make it an easy place to call home.
While you're in our new home state,
here are a few things not to miss:
Explore the Old Port in Portland, Maine
-- just an hour north of Portsmouth, NH.
Shop at the Freeport outlets, home to the estimable LL Bean .
Drive further up the beautiful Maine coast into Downeast
Maine, where Bar Harbor and
Acadia National Park await.
Scale mile-high Mount Katahdin in Baxter State
Park, terminus of the Appalachian Trail.
Monhegan, an
island about 10 miles south of the St. George Peninsula, is a beautiful artist
colony and lobsterman's community.
There's much to do if you head south
to the Bay State:
Explore the many sites of the world-class city of Boston just an hour drive from
Portsmouth.
Relax on the beaches of Cape Cod .
Explore the Islands of Nantucket and Martha's
Vineyard.
There are other
options even further into the hinterlands:
Keep on driving up the coast of Maine until you land in St.
John, New Brunswick.
Turn your compass to the northwest and drive through the
rolling hills and quaint villages of Vermont.
